ABOUT THE 2025 GBRMG
Thanks for expressing interest in the 2025 Great Barrier Reef Masters Games(GBRMG) .
Cairns Regional Council deliver the Great Barrier Reef Masters Games on a biennial basis, held from the 29 May – 1 June 2025. The event attracts over 2500 athletes participating in individual and team sports, featuring four days of competition and three social nights.
Masters Games cater to athletes generally aged over 30, maintaining a relatively balanced male/female participant ratio.
WHY BECOME A SPORTS CONVENOR?
Becoming a sports convenor for the GBRMG can act as a vehicle for major fundraising for your organisation via sports registration fees. The games enables excellent profiling for your sporting organisation, assisting to increase participation more widely for your club's future. It also provides opportunity for current club members to compete with competitors from across Australia and overseas.
HOW TO BECOME A SPORTS CONVENOR?
Council is currently inviting expressions of interest (EOI) from local sporting clubs or governing bodies for the 2025 games. Upon receiving an EOI, a request for quote will be initiated to select each sports convenor.
Once selected, the sports convenor will receive a contract for the 2025 games. After the contract is signed, Council will work with each convenor to promote and boost registrations for their respective sporting event.
RESPONSIBILTY OF A SPORTS CONVENOR?
Present a multi-day sporting event, including a minimum age requirement and age categories.
Create the event schedule
Fully staff the event days
Use intrastate and interstate contacts to attract participants to the event
Organise a venue that is up to the standard of a state championship competition to hold the event (at the club’s expense), and liaise with Council if the venue is Council-owned.
Provide the equipment for your sporting events (at the club’s expense).
